Snow Expected in Somerset

Winter weather is forecast for our region including lowland areas. Snow may start falling as early as Wednesday and may last through Sunday. Avoid driving if at all possible. If you must drive consider the following:

• Somerset hills can be treacherous as the temperature drops through freezing
• It is not unusual for side streets to remain unplowed for several days after a big snow
• Persistent cold temperatures forecast will prevent snow in streets from melting for some time
• 4-wheel drive only gives you an advantage over 2-wheel drive when starting to move and going uphill
• Most out-of-control and dangerous driving situations witnessed on slick streets in Somerset occur when traveling downhill
• The worst traction conditions occur when temperatures are around freezing and the road is becoming slick from packed snow
