Why We Prepare
How We Prepare
Safety and Hazards
Resources

Unique Somerset Hazards

Somerset’s location relative to population centers and our elevation creates unique conditions regarding emergency situations and responses.

Emergency Services

Snow and Ice

Our elevation can cause local road freezing conditions and snow when surrounding neighborhoods are only wet. When temperatures fall, be prepared for changing conditions while driving in our neighborhood and slow down. Also be prepared for black ice on roadways in the mornings when temperatures dip and especially if skies have been clear overnight.

Wind

Our exposure leaves us vulnerable to regional periodic strong windstorms. Be sure to inspect your property for trees with potential to fall on your or a neighbor’s home during a wind event. A suspect tree may require removal or may just need thinning to reduce wind loading and improve safety. Consult a tree expert if unsure.

Power Outages and Downed Power Lines

The more people reporting a power outage in our neighborhood, the better the City and PSE can assess, and restore power. Do not assume PSE knows that power is out.
  • Call Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773 to report a power outage
  • Call 911 to report a downed power line
You may also report an outage online and check PSE restoration updates at PSE's outage map.
Download PSE’s mobile status and reporting app to your device.
