Somerset Preparedness
Increasing community resilience to disasters
Block Groups promote and enhance preparedness in a neighborhood. Simply knowing who your neighbors are is the first and perhaps most important step. In addition, block groups can be used as a forum to offer basic preparedness information and discussion for how to support each other in the event of a widespread emergency or disaster.
These pages provide links and tips with information to help you prepare for a widespread emergency or disaster impacting our region and neighborhood.
The main emphasis is to provide you with the best information possible by linking to resources maintained by our city, state and other public and professional organizations. We also highlight safety issues and hazards that are unique to Somerset so you may understand what to expect and be better prepared.

Increased safety in the community from all threats is improved when the community works together to communicate and maintain preparation and readiness. Knowing and practicing the proper response to various emergency and disaster scenarios before they occur will reduce physical and emotional stress while coping with the aftermath, reduce injuries and possibly save your life or that of a family member or neighbor.
When Do We Prepare?
In general, preparation is a continuous process with increased confidence coming as you learn more and build your resilience. But it needn't be overwhelming in effort, time or cost. If you feel you are not adequately prepared after reviewing these pages then now is the time to start changing that situation. Family plans and emergency kits are probably the most important to get in place first. Join or form a block group to meet neighbors. Accumulate additional knowledge and skills gradually to reinforce your resilience. In time, you will find this brings much peace of mind!
