Block Groups

The SCA encourages residents to self-organize neighborhood block groups and to meet annually to improve safety and preparedness. A little preparedness goes a long way. Self-organizing strengthens our existing support network which in turn increases the safety and resilience of the entire community.

Resources

Block groups serve various purposes:

  • Community building and enhancing social connections.  When neighbors come together to form a block group, regardless of how formal or informal their block group is, their ability to communicate with one another and share resources not only improves quality of life but also improves our mutual resilience to a range of challenging circumstances.
  • Personal safety and crime prevention ( Block Watch ) is enhanced.  Neighbors look out for neighbors!
  • Emergency and disaster preparedness education and preparation ( Map Your Neighborhood ) is improved.  Residents learn how to help themselves and their neighbors.
  • Annual meetings help maintain social connections and provide opportunities for additional training, refreshers and welcoming new neighbors.
  • Neighbors make a big difference when they are able to work together and connect. We are thankful for our volunteer group organizers and engaged residents who help make our community safer and stronger.
