The Somerset Community Association (SCA) is a volunteer run non-profit association, whose purpose is to “preserve, foster and promote the betterment of our beautiful neighborhood.”

The SCA is funded entirely by membership dues and donations. Homeowners within the Somerset Community boundaries who pay their annual membership dues make up the voting members of the SCA.

A map of the Somerset divisions and the SCA boundaries can be found on our website HERE.

We hope you will make this investment to help keep our neighborhood safe, attractive, and connected.
The Board plans to focus on the following committees in 2025:

  • Landscaping – Coordinating all work on the Entrances, Signage, and Common Areas
  • Events – Coordinating Events including the 4th of July Parade and Picnic, and Lunar New Year Celebration
  • CRC (Covenants Review) – Supporting divisions who’ve elected to engage the CRC, handling requests for exterior updates/building, and view obstruction complaints
  • Neighborhood Pride – Facilitating neighbor communications on non-CRC covenant complaints and violations, promoting neighborly upkeep opportunities, including the Adopt-A-Street program
  • Community Safety – Emergency Prep, Block Groups, Security Cameras
  • Communications – Newsletters/Sun, Website, Community letters
  • Foundation Documents – Ensure SCA legal/recorded documents are valid, maintained, and properly archived
The Board proposes the following 5 members be elected to join the Board of Directors at the SCA Annual Membership meeting:

Lawrence Chiu - My name is Lawrence Chiu, and my family and I have been proud residents of this community for 22 years, continuing a four-decade family presence in the neighborhood. Witnessing the evolution of Somerset over this time has instilled in me a deep appreciation for its unique character.

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to serve this community in a more direct way. My background in the local tech industry, spanning over 20 years, has provided me with valuable experience in finance and marketing, skills I am eager to apply to the benefit of our association. I am particularly passionate about initiatives that enhance community safety and foster a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood for all residents.

My wife, Mary, and I have raised our two daughters, Amelia and Olivia, here in Somerset. We cherish the safe and joyful environment this community provides. In my free time, I enjoy skiing in our local mountains and sailing on Lake Washington.

Nikhil Gore - My wife Ashwini and I moved to Somerset in 2016 after living in Bellevue for about 10 years.  We loved the views and wanted to send our kids to the excellent schools; our twins are now attending Somerset Elementary. I originally grew up in India and did my Masters in Computer Science in Worcester MA, after which I moved to Seattle and fell in love with the area. I hope to be able to contribute to the board by helping in any way possible and bringing a unique perspective to the discussions. I also hope to strengthen my ties to the community and make it a great place to live.

Jiawei Gu - I’m Jiawei Gu. My husband, Tao Peng, our daughter Freya, and I have been part of the Somerset community since we moved here in September 2020. Freya previously attended Tyee Middle School and is now a sophomore at Newport High School. Before settling in Washington, we spent three years in the Bay Area, and we are originally from Shanghai, China. The rain here often reminds me of home.

Professionally, I work full-time in the banking industry. I am a member of the school PTSA and have volunteered as a chaperone for Bellevue School District’s snow camps. I look forward to getting to know more members of the community and contributing in a meaningful way. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

Fred Huang - Hello my name is Fred Huang and my wife (Loan Bui) and I have been proud Somerset residents since 2007.  We have 3 children, all of whom attended Somerset Elementary, and our eldest child just graduated from Newport High.   I am a physician who has been heavily involved in administrative and managerial affairs at our group practice, and I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve the Somerset community as a future SCA Board member.

Lisa Young - Lisa Young has called Bellevue home since 1995, after relocating from San Diego, California. She continued her law enforcement career with the Bellevue Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service. In 2008, Lisa and her family moved to the Somerset neighborhood, where they've enjoyed being part of a vibrant and welcoming community. With a strong background in law enforcement, Lisa now runs her own security consulting firm and is eager to offer her expertise in safety and security to the community. She has one son in college and enjoys spending time with her Vizsla, Bouie.
